Crown Chakra: Cosmic consciousness, spiritual understanding   Sanskrit Name: Sahasrara           Seed Sound: OM   Color: Violet/white           Sense: Thought/empathy   Element: The cosmos     Right: To know   Statement:  ‘I understand’   Vibrational Note: B   Location: Top of skull   Timeline: 42-49 years

The seventh (crown) chakra is violet in color and the associated with the cosmos. It is located at the top of the head. It is referred to as the Cosmic Consciousness Center, the foundation of our spiritual body. It is symbolized by, and often called, the lotus with one thousand petals. This is where we make spiritual connection to God and Spirit and gain spiritual understanding. The message behind the crown chakra is that we are spiritual beings and by living in the NOW, we become co creators of our lives. It links us to the highest guidance and influences spiritual will, inspiration, idealism and higher knowledge. The Crown chakra is about pure awareness and being one with the world. It harmonizes and incorporates all the chakras with their respective qualities. It is the culmination of the progression of human awareness, absolute perception of reality beyond time and space. It may help to get a feel of crown chakra concepts by reviewing these words from The Sevenfold Journey:

consciousness        learning        information        God        spirit        awareness        intellegence        divinity        Goddess           emptiness

The statement that embodies the crown chakra is “I understand”. The birthright of the crown chakra is ‘the right to know’. The crown chakra develops throughout life but is most strongly influenced during the years 42-49. Information that is stored inside the crown chakra includes; opinions of unity and separation, what draws or attracts us, controlling beliefs and patterns, and emotions (joy, anger, fear).

A person with a balanced, healthy crown chakra has increased awareness of the world and the self. One takes responsibility as they empower and support those around them. A sense of completeness, joy and security is felt as we become one with our Source. We are able absorb information and form healthy perceptions and insight. We feel free to question our beliefs, constantly expanding the level of self-awareness and self-reflection. As we are released from ego driven desires, we become more open minded, intelligent and aware. Our prejudices disappear as we become more aware of the world and it’s connection with ourselves. We know and trust that we are guided in all that we do. We see divinity in everyone and everything. We liberate the spirit without getting lost or ungrounded.

An imbalance in the crown chakra can cause many problems such as learning, thinking clearly, and spiritual issues, cynicism and rigid belief systems. Blockages of the crown chakra often come from forced religion, blind obedience, and inability to freely share ones own ideas or beliefs. As the root chakra has a connection with mother issues, crown chakra imbalance can stem from father issues. If it is under-active, we may have difficulties processing information and making decisions, and possibly experience apathy. Beliefs may be fixed, rigid, and closed to new ideas and ways of thinking. One may feel like they know best and need to be right. Those with an underactive crown chakra may be unconscious of repeated damaging patterns, unable to experience true growth and transformation. One lacks a sincere spiritual connection, not able to grasp true inner joy. If this chakra is over-active, there is a tendency to over intellectualize. Large amounts of information may become overwhelming. A person may have their ‘heads in the clouds’, being fanatically spiritual without being grounded. This may also include delusions of power, periods of psychotic or manic depression or confused sexual expression. There may even be a disconnection from the body, overlooking basic bodily needs such as food and shelter. An overactive crown chakra needs to be balanced with the root chakra to groundedness and stability.

Crown chakra questions for self-awareness:
Do you balance spirituality with your ability to stay grounded?
Do you overly fantasize and daydream?
Are you open to new ideas and new ways of thinking?
Do you continuously retreat to familiar thought and behavior patterns?
Do you lack emotion and enthusiasm? Do you ever feel life has lost its purpose?
Do you avoid the spiritual, relating to the world almost exclusively through intellect?

Physical Associations: The crown chakra governs certain physical areas of the body: the top of the head, the brain, central nervous system, pineal gland, pituitary gland (and related hormones).
The crown chakra governs the health of our brains and therefore our entire mental, physical, and spiritual health.

Physical Ailments and Dysfunctions: depression, muscular system diseases, skeletal system and the skin issues, chronic exhaustion, hallucinations, mental illness, immune disorders, and cognitive problems.
