“We have five senses in which we glory and which we recognize and celebrate, senses that constitute the sensible world for us. But there are other senses – secret senses, sixth senses, if you will – equally vital, but unrecognized, and unlauded.” ~Oliver Sacks
There are many ways to energize and bring balance to the third eye chakra. Here are some suggestions:
Use Light: The element of the third eye chakra is light. Spending time in natural light helps brings balance to this chakra. Spend some time enjoying sunlight, watching it bounce off of water or glimmering through the trees. Gaze at the moon and stars at night. Take note of the light in your home and work place and adjust it for your needs. Use more, stronger light to brighten your mood and bring energy. Use less, softer light to make your space feel cozy and warm.
Soak up Knowledge: What interests you? What would you like to learn more about? Learn, experience, and seek wisdom. Pay attention your experiences. See everyone as a teacher; all are mirrors that show us the worst and the best in ourselves. Be thankful for the insight they bring.
Trust Your Intuition: Intuition is an innate knowledge that we all possess, connected to our higher source. Turn your attention inward, moment to moment, as much as possible. Spend time in silence. Listening to our inner voice guides us towards personal expansion. Believe and to be open to listening. Trust your gut feelings and take action. Have faith in yourself to make decisions. Don’t let fear stop you from breaking out of inharmonious lifestyle choices.
Dreams: First thing after waking, take a few minutes to recall your dreams. Write them down in a dream journal. Review them and see if they can bring you insight.
Follow Your Natural Flow of Energy: Eat when you feel hungry. When you feel inspired to do something, go with it. Sleep when you feel tired. Taking naps and getting adequate sleep are important in keeping the third eye chakra balanced.
Incorporate purple and indigo colors: Spend time under the evening sky, use the colors in your your wardrobe or gems. Ingest indigo food and drink (blueberries, eggplant, juices etc.).

Meditation…
The best way to balance the third eye chakra is meditation. Sit or lie down comfortably. Still your mind. Focus your attention on your third eye between your eyebrows, and just be.
Visualizations are a great way to open the third eye chakra. Imagine and see a positive outcome of different situations. See a conversation, your day at work, an interview, a presentation, a meetings etc going well with positive outcomes. Try to imagine vividly with optimizing energy. Also, you can relax, focusing on a blank wall, candle or with your eyes close. Visualize vibrant images of your choosing to energize the third eye.
Or try a guided meditation from the videos below.
Meditate with the Third Eye Mudra…
Third Eye Mudra
Place your hands in front of your lower chest. Middle fingers are straight and touchingat the tops, pointing forward. The other fingers are bent and touch at the upper two knuckle joints. Thumbs point towards you and touch at the tops. Concentrate on the Third Eye chakra slightly above the point between the eyebrows. Chant the sound OM or AUM.
Pranayama (breathing exercises)… Alternate nostril breathing (Nadi Shodhan Pranayama) It is often used prior to deeper meditation to calm the mind. See the video below (below).
Alternate nostril breathing is a calming technique that alternates inhaling and exhaling between each nostril. This helps restore balance to your brain, improves sleep, calms emotions and the nervous system.
Breathing through the right nostril effects the left thinking/logical side of the brain. Breathing through the left nostril affects the feeling/emotional side of the brain. When we alternate breathing between the two nostrils, we bring balance to both sides.
Essential oils…
The following oils are thought to help bring balance to the third eye chakra: Patchouli, Myrrh, Olibanum, Lavender, Camphor, Sandalwood, Rose, Jasmine, Clary Sage, Palmarosa, Peppermint, Vetiver, and Sweet pea. I have been told that the best oil to tap into our Third Eye is Frankincense. It can both center and uplift while having a high sacred frequency.
Crystals…
Crystals are thought to have healing energies. Try keeping a stone with you, where you can see it or use them for meditation. The following are thought to help energize the third eye chakra: Amethyst (open, balance, energize), Moldavite (clear, open, energize), Herkimer Diamond (activate), Howlite (open, activate), Iolite (clear, open), Indigo Aura (energize), Pietersite (activate), Labradorite (balance), Ruby Zoisite (open), Stilbite (stimulate), Unakite (ground, align, balance), Azurite (open), Tanzanite (energize).
