Tight Hamstrings & Low Back Pain

hamstringsWhen your hamstrings are tight, it places a lot of stress on your low back, leading to pain and discomfort. Stretching the hamstrings can make a huge difference in relieving low back pain. Of course, if you have severe back pain, or a slipped disk it is best avoid deep forward bends as these can make your condition worse. See a physician if your pain is severe.

Yoga offers stretching and relaxation which reduces tension in stress-carrying muscles. Stretching nurishes the muscles and tissues by increasing nourishing blood flow. As gentle poses are held for several breaths, the muscles are allowed to stretch and flex slowly with ease. This promotes a relaxation response and flexibility in muscles and joints.
